Netflix Renews Latest Hit Mystery Thriller for Season 2 After Strong Debut
Netflix is bringing Untamed back for another season. Although the show was first planned as a limited series, its strong performance has convinced the streamer to renew it. The news comes from Variety, which confirmed the exclusive update.
Untamed takes place in the wild setting of Yosemite National Park and follows Kyle Turner, a special agent with the National Park Service, played by Eric Bana. The show mixes mystery, drama, and suspense as Turner investigates a suspicious death in the rugged terrain. The story unfolds in a place where nature follows its own rules, and the law doesn’t always apply the same way it does in the cities.
The series premiered on July 17, 2025, and quickly climbed to the top of Netflix’s global Top 10 chart for English-language shows during the week of July 14–20. In just a few days, it pulled in 24.6 million views, far ahead of the second-most-watched show that week, Amy Bradley Is Missing, which had 12.2 million views.
Eric Bana shared his excitement about the renewal in a statement. “I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of ‘Untamed’ to life. The response to season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”
Season 1 featured a strong cast, including Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lily Santiago, Wilson Bethel, Raoul Max Trujillo, William Smillie, Joe Holt, and Josh Randall. The characters helped bring depth to the story, which focused on Turner’s search for the truth while also dealing with personal pain, including the loss of his son six years earlier.
The show introduces viewers to a range of people working in Yosemite—from rangers and wildlife officers to legal experts and locals with deep roots in the land. New ranger Naya Vasquez, played by Lily Santiago, teams up with Turner on the main case involving Lucy Cook, a woman found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Critics have mostly responded well to the series. Rotten Tomatoes shows an 80% approval rating based on 51 reviews. The site’s summary says, “Wrangled by Eric Bana’s steady star power, Untamed’s solid murder mystery is elevated by the visually sumptuous backdrop of its Yosemite National Park milieu.” Over at Metacritic, the show holds a score of 62 out of 100, based on 21 reviews, showing a more mixed response.
Still, the strong viewership numbers made it clear that people were interested. And now, with Season 2 on the way, fans can expect to return to the wild, dangerous beauty of Yosemite for another chapter in Kyle Turner’s story.
Netflix hasn’t announced when the second season will drop, but the first one is now streaming worldwide.
