A brand-new teaser for The Monster of Florence has just been released by Netflix, and it’s already sending chills down viewers’ spines. This true crime series is based on one of Italy’s darkest and most disturbing cases, and it’s coming to the platform on October 22. The release date lines up with Netflix’s 10th anniversary in Italy.

The series is directed by Stefano Sollima, who is known for his raw and intense work on shows like Gomorrah. He created the show alongside Leonardo Fasoli, and the story focuses on a real-life serial killer who haunted the countryside near Florence from the late 1960s through the 1980s.

The killer, known by the media as Il Mostro di Firenze, or The Monster of Florence, is believed to have murdered sixteen people. Most of the victims were young couples found in isolated places, often during the new moon. The killer was never caught.

Netflix says the four-part show doesn’t just tell the story of the investigation. It also takes a look at the many suspects who were arrested or accused over the years and gives a voice to people whose lives were turned upside down by the case. The show digs into what it felt like to be considered the “monster” in the public eye.

The cast includes Marco Bullitta, Valentino Mannias, Francesca Olia, Liliana Bottone, Giacomo Fadda, Antonio Tintis, and Giordano Mannu. It’s being produced by The Apartment, which is part of Fremantle, and AlterEgo. Lorenzo Mieli, Sollima, and Gina Gardini are on board as producers.

The true case behind the series is still surrounded by confusion and fear. The killer used a .22 caliber pistol and a knife, and in several cases, he mutilated the female victims. The same gun was used in all the murders, but it was never recovered. In 1985, a piece of a victim’s body was even mailed to the Florence Prosecutor’s Office.

In the 1990s, Pietro Pacciani was arrested and later found guilty, but his conviction was overturned. He died before a new trial could begin.

Two other men, Mario Vanni and Giancarlo Lotti, were also arrested. Lotti confessed and said he and the others were involved. During the trial, Vanni claimed they were just friends who hung out and ate together, and the media began calling them The Snack Buddies. It was a bizarre nickname for such a horrifying case.

Even though Lotti and Vanni were convicted in 2000, many people still doubt what really happened. There was no DNA or fingerprint evidence, and the weapon was never found. Over the years, investigators have looked into other possibilities, including rumors of secret rituals or people hiring others to carry out the crimes, but nothing was ever proven.

The case has never been fully solved. People in and around Florence still remember the fear that hung over their lives during those years. With this new show, Netflix is revisiting a mystery that still haunts the country.

The teaser and release date were announced by Netflix and quickly picked up by entertainment news sites. The case of the Monster of Florence has fascinated true crime fans for decades, and this new series is sure to stir up more conversation, and maybe even some new questions.
