Netflix’s Biggest Recent Hit That Broke Several Records Is Getting a Sequel
KPop Demon Hunters has become one of Netflix’s biggest animated movies of 2025, and now it looks like the story might not end with just one film.
The movie, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, follows Huntr/x, a K-pop girl group with a secret life as demon hunters. Their latest battle is against the Saja Boys, a rival boy band hiding a dark secret, they’re actually demons. It’s a high-energy mix of music, action, and fantasy, brought to life with bright, stylish animation inspired by concert lighting, Korean dramas, anime, and music videos.
The voice cast includes Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. The movie’s soundtrack was also a hit, reaching number one and top ten spots on music and streaming charts.
According to Puck News, Sony Pictures Animation conceived, developed, and produced the movie, and they have the rights to make any sequels or spinoffs. The outlet also confirmed that Sony has started talks with Kang and Appelhans about coming back for another film.
Kang recently stated she’s excited about the idea of expanding the world of KPop Demon Hunters. “There are a lot of pockets that we can explore,” she said, hinting at possible backstories for characters like Mira and Zoey.
Appelhans also said that he thinks there’s plenty more story to tell. “There are so many unanswered questions, in a good way, and so many avenues that could be their own story,” he explained.
In July 2025, TheWrap reported that Netflix is looking at several possible follow-up projects. These could include two sequels, a TV series, a short film, and even a stage musical. While nothing is confirmed yet, the success of the first movie makes it likely that Huntr/x will return for more demon-hunting adventures.
