Netflix has released the official trailer for the second season of the Spanish medical drama Breathless (Respira), created by Carlos Montero.

The show, which first premiered on August 30, 2024, is set in the Joaquín Sorolla public hospital in Valencia and follows the lives, struggles, and emotional chaos of doctors and patients inside its walls.

You can check out the trailer on YouTube.

The cast features some of Spain’s most popular actors, including Najwa Nimri, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Blanca Suárez, Manu Ríos, and Borja Luna. Their performances helped make the first season a standout hit, earning a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The first season drew attention not only for its intense medical scenes but also for the personal and political stories woven into the plot.

Rebecca Cook of Digital Spy described the series as a mix of emotional drama and social commentary. She warned that “the show may not be for those who are particularly squeamish given the nature of some of the hospital scenes, but along with the impossibly good-looking people and the relationship drama there is also a political message of the pressure on a health service.”

She also noted that “some will likely be put off by the politicking and the gore, while hardline medical procedural fans will guffaw at some of the plot contrivances… fans of Grey’s Anatomy looking for something fresh-faced on a similar soapy level will relish the melodrama.”

With the new trailer now out, Breathless looks ready to return with even higher stakes, more tangled relationships, and new challenges for the doctors of Joaquín Sorolla Hospital. The fresh footage teases emotional confrontations and life-or-death moments that promise to keep viewers on edge.

Breathless season two premieres October 31, only on Netflix.
