New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Comic Book Promo Art Shows Marvel’s Heroes Dwarfed by a Looming Doctor Doom

Marvel Studios has never been shy about teasing a big event, but the rollout for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has turned the drip-feed into an art form. Between trailers, character teasers, merchandise leaks and fan-event reveals, ComicBasics notes that the studio has spent roughly two years slowly unveiling one of the most ambitious crossovers in franchise history.

A lot of that momentum has come in the form of promo art, which has surfaced in waves since early in the year. Each batch tends to reshuffle the same sprawling ensemble and ask fans to read the tea leaves.

The latest wave arrived on October 5, when Cosmic Marvel shared new comic book promo art for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ crediting Hex Facility.

The first piece is a painted, cosmic-looking cover with a Marvel Studios badge and a Fantastic Four-style emblem in the corner. Doctor Doom looms over the whole composition in the upper left, while Thor charges toward the viewer with Mjolnir crackling with energy in the foreground.

Around him, the heroes surge forward through a swirl of purple and orange. The Thing, a character in a blue-and-white suit, Sam Wilson’s Captain America with his wings, and Black Panther are all visible, alongside several other members of the ensemble.

The second image is a flatter, more stylized version of the same concept, drawn in a classic comic-book line style with Doom rendered in red tones overhead. It puts the Thing and Thor in the foreground, with heroes leaping through the air behind them.

This is far from the first piece of art of its kind. Comic Book Movie has tracked a steady stream of promotional images, including a wave of Doctor Doom, Thor and X-Men artwork in August that offered looks at Cyclops, Gambit, Professor X, Beast and Nightcrawler. More art surfaced in September through an official tie-in jigsaw box.

The heroes from the Avengers, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men appear to be grouped together with Doom for certain campaigns, and that more characters will likely be added closer to release. A comic cover that surfaced on September 2 was described by ComicBasics as the biggest crossover look yet at the film’s multiverse collision.

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with Downey returning to the MCU not as Tony Stark but as Victor von Doom. The ensemble spans multiple eras of Marvel storytelling, including Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Kelsey Grammer are returning from the original ‘X-Men’ films, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Filming took place from April to September 2025, according to the production notes on Wikipedia, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following in December 2027. Marvel’s biggest surprises are probably still hidden, with ComicBasics noting that the studio will likely hold back its secret characters until after the movie is out.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in theaters on December 18, 2026, which makes it the first Avengers film to arrive in the holiday season, per Yahoo’s release-date roundup. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the Doom-focused trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in July before reaching the public at D23.

With roughly 2 and a half months to go, expect the promo machine to keep accelerating. Each new piece of art, whether painted or cartoonish, gives fans another chance to count heads and speculate about who stands where when Doom finally makes his move.
