New Details Emerge Regarding Jimmy Olsen ‘Superman’ Spinoff Reportedly in the Works at DCU
Even though James Gunn’s Superman only just hit theaters, reports about future spinoffs are already making waves. According to the Wall Street Journal, Gunn and DC Studios are thinking about developing two new projects tied to the Superman movie.
One would follow Edi Gathegi’s character, Mr. Terrific, and the other would center on Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo.
Jimmy Olsen didn’t get a lot of screen time in Superman, but he made a big impression. In the movie, Jimmy, who works at the Daily Planet, ended up being the one to help save the day. His character has an unusual connection with Eve Teschmacher, who is Lex Luthor’s assistant and also his ex-girlfriend.
In the film’s story, Eve still cares about Jimmy and is willing to take serious risks to help him, even going as far as helping him gather key evidence against Luthor. At one point, she even risks getting trapped in Luthor’s pocket dimension just to help him.
Fans seemed to enjoy Gisondo’s take on Jimmy Olsen, and so the reaction to the idea of him getting his own spinoff show has been mostly positive.
Now, a new report suggests that this spinoff is actually moving forward. The information comes from a well-known insider on X who uses the handle @ApocHorseman. According to them, DC Studios is now actively developing a Jimmy Olsen series for HBO Max.
What makes this show interesting is that, according to the insider, it won’t be a typical superhero series. It’s said to be a crime anthology show that will feature different villains from across the DC universe. This could give fans a closer look at lesser-known villains and some darker stories from the DC world.

Adding to the speculation, Gunn recently did an interview with Rolling Stone where he teased that a new TV series was “about to be greenlit” if all goes according to plan. Though he didn’t name the project, fans are connecting the dots.
In another appearance, this time on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn was directly asked about both the rumored Mr. Terrific and Jimmy Olsen shows, but he chose not to answer. His silence only added more fuel to the rumors.
For now, DC Studios hasn’t officially confirmed the Jimmy Olsen show. But with multiple hints from insiders and Gunn himself, fans are hopeful that the project will soon be announced. In the meantime, Superman continues its run in theaters.
