New ‘Garfield’ Animated Series Officially Announced — Voice Actor Finally Revealed
A new animated series about the famous orange cat Garfield is on the way, and Paramount+ has now revealed who will voice the beloved character. Actor and comedian Lamorne Morris will take on the role of Garfield in a brand-new 2D animated show for the streaming platform.
The upcoming series will be produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios and is based on the long-running comic strip created by Jim Davis. The show will focus on Garfield’s well-known personality, including his sarcastic humor, laid-back attitude, and constant love for food, especially lasagna. Each episode will highlight the cat’s classic jokes and everyday adventures.
Behind the scenes, the project will be guided by experienced animation creators. Dave H. Johnson and John Trabbic III are serving as executive producers. Both have worked on popular animated shows in the past, including projects connected to SpongeBob SquarePants and Middlemost Post.
Morris is already well known for his work on television and film. He gained wide attention from the comedy series New Girl and later earned an Emmy Award for his performance in Fargo. Fans will also see him in the upcoming Prime Video series Spider-Noir, which stars Nicolas Cage.
In addition to acting, Morris hosts the podcast The Lamorning After with Kyle Shevrin and also co-hosts the New Girl rewatch podcast The Mess Around with Hannah Simone. He is also currently involved in production for the next installment of the Jumanji 4 franchise.
Garfield remains one of the most recognizable comic characters in the world. The comic strip has been read by more than 200 million people daily across different countries and has been around for nearly five decades. Over the years, the character has expanded far beyond newspapers into merchandise, toys, books, and many animated adaptations.
The new show will become part of Paramount+’s growing collection of family-friendly content. Other upcoming children’s programs on the platform include The Elephant & Piggie Show! and The Pigeon Show! Starring The Pigeon. The decision to use a traditional 2D animation style suggests that the creators want to keep the focus on storytelling, humor, and character interactions rather than heavy visual effects.
