New ‘Mandalorian & Grogu’ Footage Gives Fans First Look at Rare Star Wars Creature
Fans got a sneak peek of something exciting in the latest footage from the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to hit theaters on May 22. The clip includes a glimpse of a rare Star Wars creature that hasn’t been seen since Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, alongside his companion Grogu, the little green Force-sensitive being from the same species as Yoda. The film also introduces new characters played by Sigourney Weaver as Ward, a leader of the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers, and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son.
The new footage shows an Anooba, a species of alien fans haven’t seen in years. Some viewers have speculated that this could be Marrok, a male Anooba who appeared in The Clone Wars episode “Bounty.” Marrok was a companion to the bounty hunter Embo and had no lower jaw tusks, unlike most Anoobas. He assisted Embo in battles and adventures during the Clone Wars, but according to the book Aftermath: Empire’s End, Marrok died by the time of the Battle of Jakku in 5 ABY.

While it was only a brief shot, it was clearly an Anooba, a source familiar with the footage explained to fans. Many believe this is not Marrok returning but rather a new Anooba from the same species. Dave Filoni, co-writer of the movie and the creator of Marrok for The Clone Wars, is involved in the film and even voices Embo, making the appearance of an Anooba a natural nod to the character’s legacy.
However, some fans hold out hope that this could actually be Marrok, arguing that the films and shows often ignore or change events from books and other non-screen materials. This opens the door for a potential return, even if the character’s death was confirmed in a novel rather than on screen.
The Mandalorian & Grogu continues the story from the hit Disney+ series, and this glimpse of an Anooba has already sparked excitement among longtime Star Wars fans. The film promises more surprises, with new characters, familiar faces, and connections to the broader Star Wars universe.
It’s thrilling to see rare creatures like the Anooba return to the screen. It shows how the Star Wars universe continues to honor its history while introducing new stories. What do you think, could this be Marrok, or a brand-new Anooba? Share your thoughts in the comments.
