New Official Look at ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Released Ahead of January 2026 Premiere
A new poster for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been released, giving fans their new official look at the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel.
The series, set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in January 2026, is based on George R. R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas and takes place roughly 90 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire.

The story follows Ser Duncan the Tall, a humble hedge knight, and his young squire Egg, who will later become King Aegon V Targaryen.
Peter Claffey plays Ser Duncan, while Dexter Sol Ansell takes on the role of Egg. Other key cast members include Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen.
HBO first announced plans for the prequel in January 2021. Ira Parker, who previously worked on House of the Dragon, co-created the show with Martin and wrote the pilot episode. Martin is also serving as executive producer to help guide the series. According to sources, the series officially received a production order from HBO in April 2023.
Directors Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith were brought on board to set the style and tone for the six-episode season.
Harris directed the first three episodes, while Smith handled the remaining three. Filming began in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in June 2024 and wrapped up in September 2024.
HBO has already released a few promotional materials for the series. A first preview was shared in August 2024 during the network’s announcement of upcoming shows, and a “first look” teaser followed in November 2024. With the newly released poster, fans now have another glimpse of the world and characters that will bring this prequel story to life.
