New Official Look at ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Released

Warner Bros.’ upcoming film Coyote vs. Acme is giving fans a first real look thanks to a new image released by Empire magazine.

The live-action animated comedy follows Wile E. Coyote as he takes the Acme Corporation to court for selling him faulty products. The story is inspired by Ian Frazier’s 1990 The New Yorker article “Coyote v. Acme” and mixes classic Looney Tunes humor with a legal battle twist.

The film is directed by Dave Green, with a screenplay by Samy Burch based on a story by Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater.

It stars Will Forte as Kevin Avery, a struggling human lawyer who represents Coyote, and John Cena as Buddy Crane, the Acme Corporation’s tough lawyer. Other cast members include Lana Condor as Kevin’s niece Paige, P. J. Byrne as another Acme lawyer, Tone Bell, Martha Kelly, and Luis Guzmán as the judge. Longtime Looney Tunes voice actor Eric Bauza provides voices for multiple characters, and director Dave Green confirmed that familiar faces like Tweety will appear in supporting roles and cameos.

Development of Coyote vs. Acme started in August 2018 with Chris McKay producing. Jon and Josh Silberman initially wrote the screenplay. Green was brought on as director in December 2019, and Burch, Slater, and Gunn joined in 2020. Live-action filming took place in New Mexico from March to May 2022.

The project faced challenges along the way. Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the film in November 2023 to get a tax write-off, but reversed its decision after public backlash. Filmmakers were then allowed to look for other distributors.

Ketchup Entertainment eventually acquired the rights in March, after previously distributing The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. The film is now scheduled for release on August 28, 2026.

The plot centers on Coyote teaming up with Kevin Avery to sue Acme after years of products backfiring in his pursuit of the Road Runner. Their friendship grows as they face off against Buddy Crane and his team, creating both comedic and heartfelt moments along the way.
