New Reports Reveal Which Characters to Expect in ‘Marvel Zombies’
Marvel Zombies is an animated miniseries coming soon to Disney+, created by Zeb Wells. It’s based on the Marvel Comics series with the same name and will be the 16th TV show in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (but it’s not part of the Sacred Timeline). The show is produced by Marvel Studios Animation and continues the story from the “What If… Zombies?!” episode of the animated series What If…?
The story takes place in an alternate timeline where many heroes and villains have turned into zombies, and a group of survivors fights to stay alive. Bryan Andrews is the showrunner and director, while Zeb Wells is the head writer.
The series has an impressive cast returning to voice their MCU characters. Awkwafina plays Katy, Shang-Chi’s best friend. David Harbour is back as Alexei Shostakov, also known as Red Guardian, a Russian super-soldier and father figure to Yelena Belova. Simu Liu returns as Shang-Chi, who was bitten by a zombie but uses the mystical Ten Rings to stop the infection.
Elizabeth Olsen will be front and center as Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, now a powerful zombie with chaos magic and reality-warping powers. Randall Park reprises his role as FBI agent Jimmy Woo, while Florence Pugh is Yelena Belova, a skilled spy trained as a Black Widow.
Hailee Steinfeld voices Kate Bishop, a young archer trained by Clint Barton, and Dominique Thorne plays Riri Williams, a genius inventor who builds her own Iron Man-style armor. Iman Vellani is back as Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, who wields cosmic energy thanks to a magical bangle.
Vellani said her character is “the Frodo of the story,” comparing her journey to that of Frodo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings. Todd Williams also joins the cast.
In addition, Hudson Thames returns as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. The series will also include survivors like Death Dealer, Blade (or Moon Knight), and Xu Wenwu. Zombies include some big names too, such as Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Steve Rogers (Captain America), Emil Blonsky (Abomination), Ava Starr (Ghost), Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Ikaris, and Okoye.
Nexus Point News adds that we should expect to see even more characters like Black Panther, Thor, Valkyrie, Namor, Baron Zemo, John Walker, and Melina Vostokoff. It’s not clear if they will be fighting to survive or if they’ll be part of the zombie horde. Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda is described as one of the most dangerous figures in this zombie world. She even survived a fight with the Hulk, who will also appear in the show.
Other confirmed characters include Scott Lang’s Head (from What If…?), Thanos, and Blade Knight. The young heroes Riri Williams, Kate Bishop, and Kamala Khan will be featured as best friends, giving fans a glimpse of a possible Young Avengers team.
Marvel Zombies is set to be Marvel Studios Animation’s first TV-MA-rated series and will keep the same animation style as What If…?, with 3D models designed to look like flat drawings. The series is expected to premiere on Disney+ on October 3, 2025.
