Tokuma Shoten

Mamoru Oshii’s experimental, post-apocalyptic anime returns in an all-new 4K restoration supervised by Oshii, with newly rebuilt audio in 5.1 and Dolby Atmos; it opens in select U.S. cinemas on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The film follows a nameless girl guarding a mysterious egg in a desolate city and a boy who may—or may not—understand what’s inside, with character designs and art by Yoshitaka Amano. Running 71 minutes, it’s largely wordless and steeped in biblical and allegorical imagery that has influenced generations of sci-fi and fantasy creators. GKIDS is handling the restoration and theatrical presentation.
