Filming for the new Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is underway, and fans have spotted some interesting clues pointing to the return of a classic villain: the Rhino. The movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

While the film is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six and features a star-studded cast including Zendaya and Mark Ruffalo, it’s the Rhino’s possible “comeback” that’s getting a lot of attention.

The movie is currently being shot in Glasgow, Scotland, where the streets have been transformed to look like New York City’s Franklin Street. Among the props, armored vehicles with a red demon logo have been spotted, which some think could be linked to the villain Mister Negative.

But what really caught attention was a tank chase scene featuring a custom-made vehicle with a rhino-shaped head on the front. This detail strongly suggests that the Rhino will make an appearance in the film. This detail was reported by Paul Trainer of Glasgow World.

The Rhino, whose real name is Aleksei Sytsevich, is a well-known Spider-Man villain from the comics. He started as a small-time criminal from Russia who volunteered for an experiment that fused a tough, nearly indestructible suit onto his body.

This transformation gave him super strength and the look of a giant rhino, making him a powerful foe for Spider-Man. Despite his fearsome appearance, Rhino is often seen as a complicated character—sometimes more tragic than purely evil, who struggles between his criminal life and wanting respect and a better future.

Aleksei Sytsevich’s Rhino was last seen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), played by Paul Giamatti. Giamatti had revealed that the Rhino was supposed to come back in a third Amazing Spider-Man movie, but that project was canceled. Interestingly, the Rhino, played by Alessandro Nivola also showed up in last year’s SSU’s Kraven the Hunter , further sparking rumors about his return in the MCU.

Tom Holland and the film’s team are shooting some intense action scenes, including this high-speed tank chase with the rhino-themed vehicle. The production is working hard to bring New York City to life on Glasgow’s streets, complete with food trucks, American flags, and street signs.

The details of the Rhino’s role are still under wraps, but the set photos have already caused excitement among fans eager to see this iconic villain back on the big screen. Also keep in mind that Rhino’s appearance isn’t officially confirmed at this moment.

This could be the character’s first full appearance in the MCU, finally bringing the tough, armored villain into Spider-Man’s world alongside the familiar faces of Peter Parker and his friends.
