New Trailer Released for Josh Safdie’s ‘Marty Supreme’ Starring Timothée Chalamet
A new trailer has been released for Marty Supreme, the sports comedy-drama from Josh Safdie. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, who also co-produced the project. Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher appear in supporting roles.
The movie is loosely inspired by the life of American table tennis player Marty Reisman.
Marty Supreme had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 6. The film is set for a U.S. release on December 25, through A24.

The story takes place in 1950s New York City. It follows table tennis star Marty as he pushes himself to achieve greatness, facing challenges and setbacks along the way.
Timothée Chalamet plays Marty Mauser, with Gwyneth Paltrow as Kay Stone and Odessa A’zion as Rachel. Fran Drescher plays Marty’s mother, Mrs. Mauser. Other notable cast members include Tyler Okonma as Wally, Kevin O’Leary as Milton Rockwell, and Abel Ferrara as Ezra. The film also features cameos from famous figures like Penn Jillette, Philippe Petit, Tracy McGrady, Kemba Walker, and Ted Williams.
Josh Safdie developed a personal connection to the story, having grown up around table tennis thanks to his grandparents and their Lower East Side circle.
In 2018, his wife and executive producer Sara Rossein introduced him to Marty Reisman’s 1974 autobiography, The Money Player. Safdie saw similarities between Reisman and Chalamet, who was already in talks for the project. “Marty Supreme was written for [Chalamet] and his essence and his soul,” Safdie said during the film’s New York Film Festival premiere. Chalamet started training in ping pong the same year and performed many of his own stunts on set.
Filming began in New York City on September 23, 2024, and wrapped on December 5. Additional scenes were shot in Japan in February 2025. Cinematographer Darius Khondji shot the movie on 35mm film, while veteran production designer Jack Fisk worked on the sets.
For authenticity, Chalamet trained under Diego Schaaf and former American Olympian Wei Wang. Safdie also had him wear prescription glasses with contacts underneath to make his eyes appear smaller for the role. The film featured about 140 non-actors, including French highwire artist Philippe Petit.
With the release of the new trailer, audiences can get a first look at Chalamet’s performance as Marty, as well as the film’s unique mix of humor, sports, and drama. The trailer highlights the intense ping pong matches, the 1950s New York setting, and the quirky, eccentric world that Marty navigates in pursuit of his goals.
