Hoult spoke about the project during an interview with Variety at the Red Sea Film Festival. While he kept most details under wraps, he expressed his excitement for the film. I’ve already read the script, and it’s awesome, he told reporters. Fans can expect some really fun stuff for the bald billionaire this time around.
The new film promises an unexpected twist in the relationship between Superman and Lex Luthor. Director James Gunn has revealed that the two iconic rivals will need to work together to face a much larger threat. That threat has been confirmed as Brainiac, with German actor Lars Eidinger joining the cast as the villain. Gunn told The Howard Stern Show that Man of Tomorrow will explore the complicated dynamic between the hero and his arch-nemesis.
Hoult also told GQ that he is excited to surprise audiences with Lex’s story. The actor previously appeared in Peacemaker’s second season, where fans saw Lex’s life behind bars. He hinted that this new movie will continue to subvert expectations.
Outside of DC, Hoult has stayed busy with a wide range of roles. He recently starred in Clint Eastwood’s legal thriller Juror #2 and Robert Eggers’ gothic horror Nosferatu, both released in late 2024. He also appears in the upcoming heist film How to Rob a Bank, directed by David Leitch, which hits theaters on September 4.
That movie features a big ensemble cast including Anna Sawai, Pete Davidson, and Zoë Kravitz. Hoult is also set to star in Cry to Heaven, a drama directed by Tom Ford, showing his versatility from period dramas to blockbuster action films.
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. Alongside Hoult, the film will feature David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. As filming begins in April, fans are eager to see if the temporary alliance between Lex and Clark Kent will change their dynamic permanently or remain just a one-time truce.
