Nike Just Made ‘One Piece’s’ Devil Fruits Wearable, and Sneakerheads Are Losing Their Minds
Anime and streetwear have been colliding for years, but few franchises carry the kind of built-in hype that ‘One Piece‘ does. With over a thousand episodes and a fanbase that spans generations, the Straw Hat Pirates have already crossed over with everything from skate decks to fast food, proving there’s virtually no limit to how far the brand can stretch.
That crossover energy has been building toward something bigger for months. Nike’s .SWOOSH division spent weeks teasing a mysterious project, dropping cryptic references to fiery powers and rubbery limbs that had fans speculating exactly which corner of the ‘One Piece’ universe the brand was about to tap into.
Now the wait is over. Nike has officially unveiled a full ‘One Piece’ collection built around three Air Max Plus colorways, each one modeled after a different Devil Fruit from the series. The Gomu Gomu no Mi, Ope Ope no Mi, and Mera Mera no Mi each get their own retooled pair, translating the fruits’ surreal powers into completely reworked uppers rather than simple recolors.

The Gomu Gomu pair leans into Monkey D. Luffy’s rubber abilities with a mix of space purple, atomic green, and sport red. The Mera Mera colorway channels its fire-based namesake through brilliant orange, kumquat, and solar flare tones, while the Ope Ope version takes a moodier route with very berry, jade, and deep green accents inspired by the fruit’s surgical “ROOM” ability. Every pair also gets a Nike-branded Jolly Roger emblem stitched onto the tongue as a nod to Luffy’s own hand-drawn flag.
The collection doesn’t stop at footwear, either. Nike is rolling out a matching apparel line with jerseys, T-shirts, and caps, including shirts that reimagine classic Nike advertising through a manga art style, plus a vest built around the same Jolly Roger branding.

Discussing the project, Nick Remlinger, Nike’s general manager of Energy Gaming, explained the thinking behind pairing the anime’s power fantasy with the brand’s own identity, saying the collection draws on the superhuman abilities unleashed when ‘One Piece’ characters eat Devil Fruits, comparing it to the feeling an athlete gets when putting on a pair of Nikes, according to comments shared with Sole Retriever. Remlinger also teased that more surprises are coming as the collection rolls out, keeping the door open for additional drops down the line.
As for actually getting a pair, the rollout is anything but simple. A Tokyo pop-up kicks things off from September 4 to 6, with pricing in Japan set at roughly $172. Additional pop-up events follow across Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Jakarta, Mexico City, and Taipei on September 12, before a wider wave hits London, Milan, Amsterdam, Madrid, and several U.S. cities on September 19. A global release through Nike SNKRS is scheduled for September 25, with U.S. retail pricing set at $180 per pair.
Each colorway is also being treated differently in terms of access. The Gomu Gomu pair will run through a SNKRS poll system starting August 23, while the Mera Mera and Ope Ope colorways are limited to select retailers in specific regions, meaning not every fan will have an equal shot at every design.
Given how quickly anime collaborations have been selling out lately, from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Air Max 95 line to other recent ‘One Piece’ tie-ins, it’s a safe bet these Devil Fruit-inspired pairs won’t sit on shelves for long. Between the redesigned uppers, the regional exclusivity, and the broader apparel push, Nike seems to be treating this less like a simple colorway drop and more like a full-blown crossover event.
