Hot Spot is directed by Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Smoczyńska, who is known for creating unique and visually bold films. The movie features a cast led by Noomi Rapace, with Andrzej Konopka and Reika Kirishima also appearing in major roles.

Rapace has built a reputation for taking on intense and unusual projects, with previous roles in films such as Prometheus and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. In Hot Spot, she enters another challenging world, playing a character caught in the middle of a dangerous conflict between humanity and artificial intelligence.

The film was first announced in June 2020, beginning a long development process before production moved forward. According to production details, filming took place in Greece and officially wrapped on November 22, 2024.

Jakub Kijowski served as cinematographer, creating the visual style of the movie, while Marcin Macuk and Zuzanna Wrońska composed the film’s score. Their work is expected to help build the tense atmosphere of a future where technology has become a threat rather than simply a tool.

Hot Spot has attracted international attention ahead of its release, with New Europe Film Sales handling international sales rights. Focus Features will distribute the movie internationally, excluding Poland, Greece, and France. In France, distribution will be handled by The Jokers.

The film is scheduled to make its world premiere at the 30th Fantasia International Film Festival in July 2026. After its festival debut, Hot Spot will arrive in North American theaters on August 21.

While details about the story remain limited, the trailer suggests that Hot Spot will deliver a tense and mysterious experience built around questions about artificial intelligence and control. The movie joins a growing wave of science fiction stories exploring what could happen if technology becomes more powerful than the people who created it.

With Noomi Rapace leading the cast and Agnieszka Smoczyńska behind the camera, Hot Spot is shaping up to be an ambitious sci-fi thriller that blends a futuristic setting with a personal story about survival, rebellion, and the fight for freedom.
