‘Off Campus’ Star Belmont Cameli Reveals His Hockey Dreams and the Workout Behind His New Physique
Belmont Cameli has always been comfortable in the gym, but his latest role pushed his training in a completely different direction. The actor, who stars as Garrett Graham in Amazon Prime’s hockey drama Off Campus, had to build the body of a college hockey player while also learning how to actually skate on the ice.
The 28-year-old actor told Men’s Health that he has been lifting weights for more than 10 years, dating back to his high school football days. However, preparing for off-campus required a new approach. Cameli needed more muscle, more strength, and enough athletic ability to look convincing as the captain of the Briar University hockey team.
Playing a hockey player came with its own challenges. Cameli explained that there is no single body type for hockey athletes because the sport requires speed, power, and toughness. Instead of focusing on becoming extremely lean, his goal was to add size and build a stronger frame.
“As far as physique goes, my goal is not to drop down to five or six percent body fat. It’s just been to put on mass,” Cameli told Men’s Health.
The actor said adding muscle was not only about appearance. Hockey is a physical sport, and his character Garrett has to handle plenty of contact during games. Cameli wanted his body to match the demands of the role.
“I take hits all the time because I skate fast into the boards,” he explained. “Because sometimes I can’t stop. The more meat I have on my bones, the safer I am.”

Along with his workouts, Cameli had to spend time improving his skating skills. Since Garrett is the team captain, simply looking like a hockey player was not enough. He needed to move confidently on the ice and make the action scenes feel realistic.
The production also helped support his fitness goals by adding a new gym at the Off Campus set. Cameli said the extra space gave him and his castmates more chances to train during filming.
“We’re going to be in there sweating and slapping a***. It’s going to be awesome,”* he said.
For his upper body training, Cameli focuses on exercises that help him build strength in his back, chest, and arms. He shared the workout routine with Men’s Health, showing the movements he uses to add muscle and improve his overall athletic shape.
Cameli’s Off Campus upper body workout includes:
- Pullups — 3 sets, maximum reps
- Cable Fly — 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps
- Single-Arm Cross Cable Pressdown — 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps
- Cable Triceps Kickback — 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps
- Rope Curl — 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps
While Cameli has spent years training, his preparation for Off-Campus shows how much work goes into playing an athlete on screen. Between building muscle, learning hockey skills, and adapting his workouts, the actor has taken his role as Garrett Graham seriously.
How would you rate Belmont Cameli’s hockey transformation for ‘Off Campus’?
With the series bringing a new generation of hockey romance fans to Prime Video, Cameli’s transformation is becoming a major part of the conversation around the show. His goal now is not just to look like a hockey player, but to move and perform like one, too.
