Official Cause of Death Released for Rob Reiner and His Wife
Authorities have now said what officially caused the deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office looked at the bodies and decided both died from multiple sharp force injuries.
That means they were hurt by cuts or stabs from a sharp object, and their deaths were ruled homicides. This information was reported by People and confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s report.
The couple was found dead in their home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, December 14. Their daughter, Romy, found her father first and called for help.
Police later arrested their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner. He is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths. If he is found guilty, he could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty, prosecutors said. This was reported by People and ABC7 Los Angeles.
Nick Reiner went to court on Wednesday, December 17. He spoke only briefly to confirm he agreed to delay his arraignment until January 7, 2026. His lawyers did not enter a plea at that time, and a judge ordered he stay in jail without bail, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.
The Reiner children also made a statement through PEOPLE, saying they are heartbroken by the loss of their parents. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents … is something that no one should ever experience.”
Rob Reiner was a well-known director and actor, famous for films such as The Princess Bride and This Is Spinal Tap. His wife, Michele Singer Reiner, was a photographer and producer, and they were married for more than three decades. Their deaths have shocked many, and tributes have poured in from people in Hollywood and beyond.
