Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is finally slicing its way into theaters this December. The long-awaited version of Tarantino’s martial-arts revenge saga will hit select screens on December 5, letting fans watch the full story in one sitting for the first time.

The original Kill Bill movies—Vol. 1 (2003) and Vol. 2 (2004)—were released separately, each showing different sides of Beatrix Kiddo’s bloody journey for revenge. The first film focused on non-stop action and over-the-top fight scenes, while the second slowed down, exploring backstory and character emotion. Tarantino has said for years that he always wanted the two volumes to be seen as one complete movie, and now that vision is finally being realized.

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair brings both volumes together into a single four-hour experience. Lionsgate has released an official trailer for the event, showing a glimpse of what audiences can expect from this extended cut.

Fans will notice a few new touches. One big addition is a brand-new animated sequence lasting more than seven minutes. The scene reportedly dives deeper into the history of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, the group of killers that Beatrix once worked with before turning against them. According to a report from Cartoon Brew, the new animation is said to be as visually impressive as the famous anime-inspired sequence in Vol. 1.

To make the marathon experience easier on moviegoers, Tarantino has also included a short break. The screening will feature a 10-minute intermission, similar to what he did for The Hateful Eight roadshow version. The pause will serve as a transition point between the two halves of the film and give audiences time to rest before the slower, more reflective second part begins.

Keeping with Tarantino’s love for classic cinema, The Whole Bloody Affair will play in both 35mm and 70mm formats in select theaters. This gives fans the chance to experience it the way the director prefers—on the big screen, with the hum of film projectors and all the gritty detail that comes with it.

For longtime fans, this release offers something special: the chance to see Kill Bill exactly as Tarantino originally intended, a single, unbroken revenge story filled with martial arts, emotion, and the filmmaker’s trademark style.
