Red carpet premieres have a way of turning into full-blown cultural moments when the film behind them is already stirring up conversation, and that’s exactly the energy surrounding Olivia Wilde’s latest project. The actress made her way through the Los Angeles premiere circuit this week for one of the more talked-about releases of the summer.

Wilde stepped out at the DGA Theater Complex on Tuesday evening for the premiere of ‘I Want Your Sex,’ director Gregg Araki’s provocative erotic thriller that’s been building buzz since its debut earlier this year. Dressed in a sharp black blazer paired with white denim, Wilde struck a confident, effortlessly cool tone against the film’s signature hot pink promotional backdrop.

That striking visual moment comes at the tail end of a packed run of press for the film, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January before securing its wider theatrical release. Wilde stars as Erika Tracy, a magnetic and commanding artist who pulls a young gallery assistant played by Cooper Hoffman into an intense, boundary-pushing relationship built on desire, control, and obsession.

Joining Wilde and Hoffman at the Los Angeles event were several of their co-stars, including Mason Gooding, Chase Sui Wonders, Margaret Cho, and Daveed Diggs, alongside Araki himself. The film, co-written by Araki and Karley Sciortino, has drawn attention for pushing its R-rating to the edge, with critics praising it as a surprisingly tender story wrapped inside its bolder, more explicit moments.

While walking the carpet, Wilde also used the moment to reveal fresh details about an entirely different project on her plate. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Wilde described her upcoming directorial effort, a holiday comedy titled ‘Naughty’ starring Jennifer Aniston and Peter Dinklage, as something far bigger in scale than anything she’s tackled behind the camera before.

That kind of momentum captures just how busy this stretch has been for Wilde professionally. Beyond ‘I Want Your Sex,’ she’s also been generating awards buzz for her performance in ‘The Invite,’ making this summer something of a career high point across both acting and directing pursuits.

‘I Want Your Sex’ itself has continued building critical goodwill since its festival debut, currently sitting around an 89 percent approval rating among critics. Reviewers have largely praised it as one of Araki’s most accessible films to date, balancing its bawdy, dramedy sensibilities with genuine emotional depth beneath the provocative surface.

The film is set for a limited theatrical release on July 31 through Magnolia Pictures, landing in a particularly crowded weekend that also includes ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ among other new releases. That kind of counter-programming has become something of a strategy for smaller, buzzier titles looking to capture audiences seeking an alternative to blockbuster spectacle.

For Wilde, the film represents another example of her willingness to take on daring, unconventional material as an actress, following a career defined by an eclectic mix of choices both in front of and behind the camera. Her red carpet look for the premiere, polished yet edgy, seemed to mirror that same sensibility, striking a balance between glamour and understated confidence.

With ‘I Want Your Sex’ now heading into wide release and Wilde already teasing her next major directorial swing, this looks like a summer where she’s determined to stay firmly in the spotlight.
