‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5 Trailer Teases Mob Links and New Suspects Including Christoph Waltz and Renée Zellweger
The highly anticipated fifth season of Only Murders in the Building is set to premiere on September 9, 2025. Warner Bros. released a new trailer and key art for the upcoming season, giving fans an exciting look at what’s coming next.
The story picks up with the mysterious death of Lester, the Arconia doorman. Officially, his death was ruled accidental, but Charles, Oliver, and Mabel aren’t buying it. Having solved four murders before and shared their findings on their popular podcast Only Murders in the Building, the trio is determined to uncover the truth behind Lester’s suspicious death.
The new trailer reveals that their investigation leads them deep into the darker side of New York City. They discover a complicated web involving powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and some of the Arconia’s most secretive residents, including Howard Morris, played by Michael Cyril Creighton.
It’s clear the mob plays a big role this season, as Lester apparently crossed paths with them the night he died. Detective Donna Williams, played by Da’Vine Joy Randolph, joins the case and points the team toward a chilling clue, a finger left behind by the killer. This gruesome discovery could be the key to solving the mystery.

The fifth season brings an impressive cast of new faces, as revealed in the trailer and through official announcements. Melissa McCarthy joined the show back in May 2024, while Keegan-Michael Key, Christoph Waltz, and Renée Zellweger were added in March 2025 in secretive roles. April 2025 brought more new cast members including Logan Lerman and Beanie Feldstein.
Fans will also see familiar faces like Téa Leoni returning as Sofia Caccimelio, the wife of a missing person connected to a crime family, stirring up drama — especially with hints of a possible affair with Charles.

The trailer features other guest stars such as Bobby Cannavale, Dianne Wiest, Jermaine Fowler, and more, alongside returning characters played by Nathan Lane, Richard Kind, and Meryl Streep.
One big question remains if Paul Rudd will make another surprise appearance after his roles in previous seasons, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Season 5 was filmed between March and June 2025, and fans will be able to watch the first three episodes as soon as the season premieres, with new episodes releasing every Tuesday on Hulu.
