‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 6 Expands Cast With Major New Additions
Only Murders in the Building is expanding its cast heavily as production moves to London for the first time in the series’ history.
The new season is currently being filmed in the UK. According to the report, this is the first time the series has left New York City and moved its story overseas. The main trio—Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez—will now be investigating a new mystery in London.
The casting additions are large and include many well-known British actors. Among the biggest names joining in recurring roles are David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan, and Jodie Whittaker. The report also confirms that Jim Broadbent, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis, and Kathryn Hunter will also appear.
These additions continue a trend of bringing in high-profile guest stars for each season, but this time the list is especially large and focused on UK talent. Many of the new cast members are known from major franchises, including Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and Bridgerton.
David Tennant is one of the most recognizable names in the lineup. He is widely known for playing the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctor in Doctor Who. Nicola Coughlan is also joining after gaining global attention for her role in Bridgerton. Jodie Whittaker brings her own history with Doctor Who as the first woman to play the Doctor. Jim Broadbent is known for his long film career, including Harry Potter and Iris, while Richard Ayoade is known for his work in The IT Crowd and film directing.
The report also notes that production is already underway and that the story will shift into a new setting outside the United States. The series has always been based in New York, so this move to London is a major change for the show’s format and tone.

The show continues to be created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, with executive production support from Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Dan Fogelman, and others involved in the long-running series. The creative team has kept the structure of the show consistent over the years, focusing on a mix of comedy, mystery, and guest-driven storytelling.
According to Deadline, this season will also include a very long list of additional recurring and guest actors announced earlier, including names such as Jennifer Saunders, Martin Freeman, Sharon Horgan, and others. This makes the upcoming season one of the most star-heavy in the show’s run so far.
While plot details are still limited, the move to London and the expanded cast suggest a larger, more international mystery for the trio to solve. The show’s format of mixing humor with crime storytelling remains the same, but the new setting changes the scale.
At the moment, no release date has been confirmed for the new season, but filming is ongoing. The casting update shows that the series continues to grow in ambition as it enters a new chapter outside its original setting.
