Jeremy Renner, the actor behind Hawkeye, has confirmed that he will not appear in the upcoming Marvel films Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Despite the movie’s star-studded cast, which includes Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, and many more, Renner said he won’t be reprising his role.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM while promoting the fourth season of his Paramount+ show Mayor of Kingstown, Renner said, “I’m pretty busy myself.”

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be a major crossover event, featuring the Avengers, Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men uniting against Doctor Doom.

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. It will mark the fifth installment in the Avengers series and the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While he won’t be in Doomsday, Renner remains involved in the Hawkeye universe. In an interview with The Playlist this week, he expressed optimism about a second season of the Disney+ series.

“We got to where we’re trying to do the second season … and it’s gonna be great,” he said, showing that Hawkeye fans may still see him return in the small-screen format.

While it’s disappointing that Hawkeye won’t be part of Doomsday, Renner’s focus on a second season of his Disney+ series could allow the character to explore more personal stories. It seems Marvel is balancing its big ensemble films with more intimate, character-driven series.
