Oscar Isaac Refuses to Work with Disney, Says Company Must ‘Learn Not to Succumb to Fascism
Oscar Isaac is not interested in teaming up with Disney again anytime soon. The actor, best known to Star Wars fans as Poe Dameron, told GQ magazine that he’s currently not open to working with the company, unless things change.
When asked if he’d return to the Star Wars universe, Isaac replied, “Yeah. I mean, I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great… if that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.”
The GQ interview took place just two days after Disney and ABC temporarily halted production on Jimmy Kimmel Live! following controversy around comments Kimmel made about the death of political figure Charlie Kirk. The show resumed filming four days later.
Isaac’s latest comments mark a shift in tone since he first spoke about Star Wars a few years ago. Back in 2020, just months after The Rise of Skywalker hit theaters, Isaac told Deadline that the franchise wasn’t really the kind of work he originally wanted to do.
At the time, he explained, “What I set out to do was to make handmade movies and to work with people that inspire me.” He added that he would “probably not” return to Star Wars — unless, he joked, “maybe if I need another house or something.”
Looking back on that remark now, Isaac told GQ he regrets how it came across. “Yeah. That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ. Y’know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don’t really think about it that much. I said a slightly di**** thing,” he said.
