Paramount+ has confirmed that Dexter: Resurrection will return for a second season following its successful debut.

The series, developed by Clyde Phillips, is a continuation of the Dexter saga, following both Dexter and Dexter: New Blood, and stars Michael C. Hall once again as the infamous Dexter Morgan. Joining him in the cast are Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, David Zayas, Ntare Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, James Remar, and Peter Dinklage.

Dexter: Resurrection premiered on July 11, on Paramount+ Premium and consists of ten episodes.

The story picks up ten weeks after Dexter: New Blood, with Dexter recovering from a near-fatal gunshot wound and tracking a missing Harrison to New York City. Captain Angel Batista from Miami is hot on their trail, adding tension to the hunt.

The series set new streaming records for Showtime, drawing 3.1 million global cross-platform viewers in its first three days. According to Paramount, that number is 44% higher than Dexter: Original Sin’s premiere and 76% higher than Dexter: New Blood’s debut.

Critics have also praised the series. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 95% approval rating based on 62 reviews, with the critics’ consensus reading: “Dexter brushes off a minor case of death and multiple false endings to reemerge as vital as ever in a knowingly absurd continuation that rediscovers the thrill of the hunt.”

Metacritic gave the show a score of 65 out of 100 based on 17 critic reviews, indicating “generally favorable” feedback.

With strong viewership numbers and positive reviews, the renewal for a second season seems like a natural next step for the franchise. The return of Michael C. Hall and a familiar supporting cast promises more suspense, intrigue, and the dark charm that fans have come to love.

The success of Dexter: Resurrection shows that fans are still invested in Dexter Morgan’s story, and Paramount+ is clearly confident in its continued appeal. Do you think Dexter can keep surprising viewers in season two? Share your thoughts in the comments.
