Patrick Wilson Shocks Fans with Unexpected Appearance at ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Screening
Fans at a recent Atlanta screening of The Conjuring: Last Rites got more than just scares from the film—they were treated to a surprise appearance by Patrick Wilson.
The actor, who plays paranormal investigator Ed Warren in the long-running franchise, showed up unexpectedly and interacted with the audience.
He explained that this was the only screening he planned to attend, prompting excited cheers from fans. During his visit, Wilson asked the crowd how many were new to the series and how many had seen multiple films. He mentioned he stopped by because he was filming nearby.

The Conjuring: Last Rites, directed by Michael Chaves and written by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, is the ninth installment in the franchise. It tells the story of the Smurl haunting, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren.
The film also stars Mia Tomlinson and Ben Hardy. Released in the United States on September 5 it received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, the scores reflected a range of reactions, but audiences were clearly engaged.
The film has performed strongly at the box office, grossing $83 million in the United States and Canada and $104 million internationally as of September 7, 2025, for a worldwide total of $187 million.
This was well above initial projections, as the film had been expected to earn around $50 million from 3,726 theaters during its opening weekend. Its opening day included $8.5 million from Thursday previews, setting new franchise records.
Overall, it marked the best opening in The Conjuring series and the third-biggest debut ever for a horror film. Internationally, its opening day in the Philippines was the second-highest of 2025 and the top for any horror film that year, surpassing Final Destination Bloodlines.

This surprise visit by Patrick Wilson added an extra thrill for fans, making the Atlanta screening a memorable event. His interaction with the audience highlighted the actor’s connection with the franchise and its followers.
In my view, Wilson’s appearance shows how much effort the cast puts into engaging fans beyond the screen. It’s a clever way to add excitement to a film release and makes the viewing experience feel more personal. I’m curious what you think about actors making surprise appearances like this.
