‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Finally Addresses the Most Controversial Scene from Season 1
Peacemaker’s place in the new DC Universe has finally been clarified. HBO Max’s Peacemaker Season 2 premiere makes some important changes to the controversial Justice League cameo from the end of Season 1.
To recap, the Season 1 finale ended with Peacemaker (John Cena) carrying an unconscious Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) after defeating the extraterrestrial Butterflies. Suddenly, the Justice League appeared, including Ezra Miller’s Flash, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, and silhouetted versions of Superman and Wonder Woman.
Batman and Cyborg were supposed to appear too, but their cameos were removed. “There are reasons for [their absences],” Peacemaker creator James Gunn explained at the time. “It might have to do with future stuff.”
History has been rewritten. ‘PEACEMAKER’ Season 2 swaps out the Justice League for Superman, Supergirl & the Justice Gang.

The scene also included a memorable exchange where Peacemaker called the Justice League “You’re late, you f**** d******,” and a callback to a running joke about Aquaman and fish.
But with the launch of DC Studios’ new DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran, things needed a refresh. Gunn told THR, “They don’t exist yet. But the rule is: If we mention [something from the past] in one of the new DCU shows [and movies], then it happened. That’s the way we’re dealing with it.”
Season 2 opens with a “Previously in the DCU” recap. It keeps the events of Season 1 but edits the finale so that Peacemaker runs into the Justice Gang instead of the Justice League.
The Justice Gang was introduced in Gunn’s upcoming Superman film and includes Superman, Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders, Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Supergirl, played by David Corenswet, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and Milly Alcock.
The retouched recap includes moments like Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) calling Amanda Waller about the Justice Gang, and Peacemaker teasing Guy Gardner’s “puke fetish”. The famous line “You’re late, you f***** d*****” remains, but the silhouettes now match the Justice Gang members.
Merced’s Hawkgirl quips, “What a meathead,” and Fillion’s Guy Gardner adds, “Screw that guy. You know he tells people I’m a puke freak…?”
Later in the episode, Peacemaker is even half-interviewed by members of the Justice Gang, including Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), for a possible position. These changes finally address the Season 1 cameo controversy and establish Peacemaker’s proper place in the new DCU.
