James Gunn has a very clear warning for fans about Peacemaker season 2: it is absolutely not for kids. In a recent interview with Rainn Wilson, Gunn explained why the show’s premiere goes way beyond what viewers might expect.

Wilson asked how HBO allowed the frequent use of the word “c***” and a full-on o*** that even features dancing penises. He said, “Because literally my jaw dropped to the f****** floor.” Gunn laughed and replied, “Listen, we wanted to make it real. I’m not worried about the use of the C word… But the o*** in the first episode, I think we’re just letting people know, ‘Hey, this is a wild ride that you’re in for the whole season and this is the kind of craziness you’re going to see.’”

Gunn emphasized that while Peacemaker season 2 follows the DC Universe film Superman (2025), it is not a children’s show. “We’re trying to warn people as much as possible when they see the episode that although this is a follow-up to Superman, it is definitely not for children,” he said.

He also talked about how the o*** scene was filmed. The intimacy coordinator made everyone comfortable and ensured everything was consensual. “The intimacy coordinator was my best friend for the days that we were shooting that o*** because it really allowed us to just do whatever we wanted and be really comfortable with it and make sure that everyone was on the same page,” Gunn said. He even praised the extras who went all out, joking about a guy eating a sandwich in the middle of the scene.

Peacemaker season 2 follows Chris Smith, a jingoistic mercenary, and is set in the DC Universe, a soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe. Produced by DC Studios with James Gunn as showrunner, the season is set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, with eight episodes. Critics have already praised the season, saying it improves on the first and highlighting John Cena’s performance along with the rest of the cast.

Gunn’s message is clear: the first episode, and the rest of the season, is adult from start to finish. Fans should expect wild, outrageous, and very explicit content, and anyone looking for family-friendly superhero fun should look elsewhere.
