‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Trailer Leaks – Confirms How Peacemaker Will Jump From DCEU to DCU

Looks like Peacemaker fans just got an early treat. A brand-new trailer for Season 2 has leaked online after being shown ahead of early Superman screenings. It didn’t take long before fans who saw it started sharing all the juicy details.

Even though the trailer is pretty short, it drops one major hint about how the show moves from the old DCEU into James Gunn’s new DC Universe.

One line from John Cena’s character really stands out. In the teaser, he says, “There’s another dimension. That’s exactly the same as ours. But it’s better.” It’s a simple line, but it says a lot. It seems to confirm that Peacemaker is crossing over into a slightly different, maybe cleaner version of the universe we’ve seen before.

James Gunn, who runs DC Studios now, already told fans that Season 2 of Peacemaker is fully part of the new DCU. In fact, he said the first season mostly fits, too, except for one big moment, ahem, involving the Justice League.

During a Q&A, Gunn said, “The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League… which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker.”

So if you’ve watched Season 1, you won’t be lost. Most of what happened still counts in the new timeline. And whatever doesn’t, it sounds like Gunn has a plan for it.

John Cena is back as Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker. Season 2 picks up right after the first one ended, and it looks like Gunn is still running the show, writing and directing all eight episodes himself.

This season’s road to production was kind of messy, though. It was first announced way back in February 2022. But then Gunn got promoted to co-head of DC Studios, and things got delayed. He had to shift focus to other projects, especially the Superman movie that’s coming in 2025.

Originally, a spin-off show about Amanda Waller was supposed to happen first. But after the Hollywood strikes in 2023 pushed everything back, Gunn announced in March 2024 that Peacemaker Season 2 would move ahead before Waller.

Filming kicked off in April 2024. Some of it was even shot at the same time as Superman over at Trilith Studios in Atlanta. The full shoot started in June and wrapped up in November.

Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. It’s going to have eight episodes, and now that the trailer’s out there—even unofficially—fans have a better idea of what’s coming.

The multiverse door is officially open, and Peacemaker’s walking right through it.
