‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Trailer Reveals John Cena in a Parallel Universe Adventure
San Diego Comic-Con had something big to offer this year, especially for fans of Peacemaker.
The panel opened with the new Season 2 trailer. This time, John Cena’s Peacemaker finds himself in a parallel universe. It looks just like ours, but somehow… better. In this new place, he even gets to be with Jennifer Holland’s Harcourt.
But back in the real world, things aren’t so great. Frank Grillo’s character, Rick Flag Sr., who also appears in Superman, is trying to shut the portal Peacemaker crossed through. Leota, played by Danielle Brooks, appears in the trailer and tells Chris: “No matter how great the grass is over there, you belong here with us.”
James Gunn gave fans a little more insight into what to expect from Peacemaker’s journey this season. He said, “I really like TV shows where the characters don’t just return every season and they’re the same exact characters. I want to see growth. I want to see change and sometimes regression. And Peacemaker is a different guy this year. He’s dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season and trying to deal with them, and the world is not accepting him the way he is. They aren’t accepting him as a hero.”
Season 2 of Peacemaker is also connected to Gunn’s recently released Superman film. That movie leads right into the new season and brings along some of its supporting characters. Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner (Green Lantern), Isabel Merced’s Hawkgirl, and Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord all show up and put Peacemaker through an interview with the Justice League.
Fans at the panel were treated to more than just the trailer. They also got to see a scene where Harcourt beats up a group of guys in a bar after they catcall her. Gunn said that was his favorite day filming, at least until they shot something for Episode 8. Holland added that she even gets to do a Dirty Dancing-style lift in the new opening credits.
Season one ended with Peacemaker saving the world from alien butterflies. It also revealed that Leota is the daughter of Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis. Chris was last seen sitting on his porch with the ghost of his racist dad, Auggie (Robert Patrick).
It looks like that ghost isn’t going anywhere, expect him to be a sarcastic and unwanted Obi-Wan-type figure in Chris’ life going forward. Also, Chris is still keeping Goff, the alien butterfly, alive, and he now has access to his dad’s stash of weapons and costumes.
The new season will follow Chris Smith as he tries to deal with everything he’s been through and find his purpose. But, as always, he’s still out there trying to bring peace, even if he has to fight a few people to do it.
Cast members who showed up included Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and newcomers Sol Rodriguez and Tim Meadows. Grillo and Cena were also on stage. Danielle Brooks couldn’t make it after getting food poisoning from dinner with Gunn. Cena joked about staying hydrated to avoid the same fate and even laughed about needing to pee in his costume.
Gunn also teased a fun new twist, Michael Rooker will be appearing as a world-famous eagle hunter, basically the Lex Luthor to Eagley.
Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, and will have eight episodes.
