Peacock Pulls the Plug on Show Rated 97% on Rotten Tomatoes After Just 2 Seasons
Peacock has canceled Poker Face after two seasons, but the show’s creators are looking for a way to keep the story alive. According to Deadline, director Rian Johnson and star-turned-producer Natasha Lyonne are shopping a new version of the show to a different distributor.
In this new iteration, Peter Dinklage would take over the lead role from Lyonne, playing the clever detective Charlie Cale.
Johnson envisions a rotating lead, with a new actor taking over every two seasons. Lyonne would stay involved as an executive producer, while Johnson would continue to write and direct. It is not yet clear who would serve as showrunner, though previous showrunners included Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman for Season 1, and Tony Tost for Season 2.
Johnson and Lyonne commented on the plan, saying, “We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale. We love our ‘Poker Face’ and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”
Poker Face premiered in 2021, inspired by classic mystery-of-the-week shows like Columbo. The series followed Charlie Cale, a nomadic detective with a special ability to spot lies.
Over two seasons, the show featured many notable guest stars, including John Mulaney as a corrupt FBI agent and Cynthia Erivo playing sextuplets. The series earned six Emmy nominations and won one for Judith Light’s guest appearance. The show is produced by MRC and T-Street.
