Pedro Pascal Admits He Was “Appalled” by His Look in ‘Wonder Woman 1984’
Pedro Pascal recently sat down with his Fantastic Four co-star Vanessa Kirby for a round of LADbible’s “Agree to Disagree” video series, and things got personal when the topic of facial hair came up.
The two stars were asked to weigh in on what’s sexier: mustaches or beards. And that’s when Pascal admitted something unexpected, he really didn’t like how he looked in Wonder Woman 1984.
Pascal, who often sports facial hair in his roles, said the clean-shaven look he had to wear for playing Maxwell Lord in the DC sequel left him pretty unsettled.
“I grow such s*** facial hair, but if I were to shave it all off… I really look very [awful]. Strongly disagree with a clean shaven me,” Pascal said during the chat. “I was so appalled by the way I look in ‘Wonder Woman 1984.’ I loved the movie, but I was so appalled by the way that I looked that I never have gone back unless it were completely necessary.”
Pascal said he’d only go clean-shaven again if it was absolutely needed for a role. “If they asked me to be clean shave for ‘Fantastic Four’ and insisted then I would’ve done it,” he explained. “But it was a very collaborative creation for all of our looks in the movie.”
He keeps his signature mustache in Fantastic Four, where he plays Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, but not everyone is happy about it. Some fans who are loyal to the clean-cut look from the comic books didn’t exactly love the idea. Pascal said he’s heard the complaints loud and clear.
“I’m more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I’ve ever done,” Pascal told Vanity Fair earlier. “He’s too old. He’s not right. He needs to shave.” That’s just some of the feedback he says he got when the casting was first announced.
While his time as Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984 was a one-off in the now-rebooted DC Universe, Pascal is fully in the Marvel camp now. He’ll be back as Reed in next year’s big MCU crossover Avengers: Doomsday.
