Pedro Pascal Says Marvel Asked Him to Pull Back From Doing One Specific Thing While Filming ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’
Pedro Pascal is gearing up for one of his biggest roles yet as he takes on Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in Marvel’s upcoming movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Although the film won’t hit theaters until July 25, 2025, Pascal is already making moves in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He’s joined the cast on the set of Avengers: Doomsday and is expected to appear again in Avengers: Secret Wars, showing that he’s becoming an important part of the MCU.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Pascal opened up about how he prepared for the role and shared a funny story about the voice he originally used. He tried a mid-Atlantic accent—a style mixing American and British English that was popular in movies and theater during the early to mid-1900s—to match the film’s 1960s-inspired setting. But Marvel stepped in and asked him to tone it down.
“They had a dialect coach that was sort of gonna help us into that kind of dialect. And I took to it so well… they were like, ‘Uh, talk more like yourself,’” Pascal said.
He explained that he got really into the vibe of the 1960s era, which made it hard to drop the accent. “I had a hard time doing that, ‘cause I was so into the era, which for me was something to step into so that it’s different than what we’ve seen before,” he added.
Fans have had mixed reactions to Pascal’s beard as Mister Fantastic, but most are excited about his casting overall. With multiple Marvel projects ahead, Pascal’s Reed Richards could turn out to be one of his most memorable roles.
The movie is directed by Matt Shakman and written by Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson. Alongside Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn make up the rest of Marvel’s First Family. The team will face off against the cosmic villain Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson, in a story set in a retro-futuristic 1960s world.
Unlike previous Fantastic Four films, this reboot skips the team’s origin story, which Marvel confirmed early on. Filming took place throughout 2024 in England and Spain and finished late last year. The Fantastic Four: First Steps will kick off Phase Six of the MCU, and a sequel is already planned.
This new chapter for the Fantastic Four looks set to bring a fresh take on the classic team with a mix of retro style and modern Marvel universe connections.
