Pennywise Unleashed: See His Terrifying New Look in ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’
Fans of Stephen King’s terrifying world are getting a fresh scare with the upcoming series It: Welcome to Derry. The supernatural horror show, based on King’s 1986 novel It, serves as a prequel to the films It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019).
The series was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, who all worked on the previous It films. The show stars Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, and Stephen Rider, with Bill Skarsgård returning as the menacing Pennywise the Clown. According to HBO, It: Welcome to Derry will premiere in October 2025 and run for nine episodes.
The story takes place in 1962, when a family moves to Derry, Maine, just as a young boy goes missing. Trouble quickly follows, and the town starts to reveal its dark, horrifying secrets. The series explores Derry’s history and sets the stage for the terrifying events seen in the films.

Fans were curious whether Bill Skarsgård would return as Pennywise, especially since he stayed quiet about his involvement for a while. It was later confirmed that Skarsgård would reprise his role, joining the cast alongside Adepo, Paige, and others.
In addition to the series itself, fans are getting a sneak peek at Pennywise’s new look through official merchandise. Funko POP News! shared details about the new figures, which feature the clown in multiple forms.
Two of the figures show Pennywise in his classic look with his old wagon, while another shows the human Bob Gray form seen in Chapter Two. The scariest design is called Skeleton Man. It comes with sharp claws, a missing nose, and a mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth.

It: Welcome to Derry is just the first part of a planned three-season story. Future installments are set to explore the years 1935 and 1908, diving deeper into the town’s dark past. The series was initially set to stream exclusively on HBO Max but will now premiere on HBO.
