Pixar Just Revealed What ‘Incredibles 3’ Is Actually About -t he Parr Kids Are Finally Taking Center Stage

Pixar has spent the better part of the last two decades building one of its most beloved franchises around a single superpowered family, and fans have waited years for confirmation of where that story goes next. Ever since ‘Incredibles 2‘ wrapped up in 2018, speculation has swirled about what a third chapter could possibly explore for the Parr family.

That anticipation only intensified once Pixar confirmed a third installment was actually happening, with details kept tightly under wraps for months. Fans have spent that time theorizing about everything from potential villains to which family member might finally get their moment in the spotlight.

Pixar finally pulled back the curtain at D23, revealing that ‘Incredibles 3’ will shift its focus squarely onto Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack when the film arrives in theaters on June 16, 2028. Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter made the announcement as part of the studio’s 40th anniversary celebration, describing the film as the piece that finally rounds out the Parr family trilogy.

“It’s the kids’ turn to take the spotlight,” Docter told the D23 crowd, setting the tone for a story that pushes Bob and Helen into more supporting roles after headlining the franchise’s first two entries. The shift represents a significant tonal change for a series that’s always centered its narrative around the parents’ evolving relationship with heroism.

According to Docter, the film picks up just a few weeks after the events of ‘Incredibles 2’, with superheroes once again operating legally thanks to entrepreneur Winston Deavor. This time, Deavor has launched something called the “Super Hero League,” a heavily sponsored organization built around branding, marketing, and merchandising that effectively turns superheroism into a corporate enterprise.

Against that backdrop, Violet and Dash find themselves eager to prove they’re capable of being real Supers in their own right, despite their parents’ hesitation. “They want to prove that they are ready to be real Supers, and their parents aren’t quite so convinced,” Docter explained. “So they’ve been sneaking out at night to protect the city, and it doesn’t go over so well at home.”

Complicating matters further is Jack-Jack, whose unpredictable and still-developing powers continue to challenge the family’s ability to keep him under control. Bird, who wrote and directed the first two films, noted that the characters won’t be aged up for this installment, preserving the family dynamics that have defined the franchise from the start.

Pixar also teased a formidable new antagonist for the threequel, though details remain deliberately scarce. Docter began describing a “super villain with more power than all the family put together,” only to be jokingly cut off mid-sentence by Edna Mode actor Brad Bird, who reminded him not to spoil too much ahead of the film’s 2028 release.

Concept art shown during the presentation depicted the mysterious villain with glowing white eyes and a distinctive V-shaped marking running down their mask, hinting at a sleek, imposing aesthetic that could position them as one of the franchise’s more menacing threats yet. Beyond the villain, Bob himself is reportedly grappling with his own sense of relevance as a new generation of Supers begins to emerge around him.

Peter Sohn, the director behind ‘Elemental’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur’, takes over directing duties from Bird, who remains attached as a writer and executive producer. Familiar faces like Frozone and Edna Mode are expected to return alongside the Parr family for this next chapter.

With a release date now locked in and the film’s central focus finally confirmed, fans have plenty to speculate about heading into ‘Incredibles 3’.
