Japanese players of Pokémon Legends: Z-A recently discovered a surprisingly rare reference to Pikachu’s bathroom habits in the game.

An NPC in Lumiose City mentions being worried because their Pikachu is “pooping more than usual.” This small moment quickly caught attention online, with “Pikachu’s Poop” briefly trending on X among Japanese fans, according to Automaton.

While this may seem like a strange detail, it’s notable because Pokémon games rarely address such everyday creature needs.

Previous entries in the series have occasionally referenced Pokémon droppings, often with humor or practical purposes, like Diglett’s poop being useful as fertilizer or Darumaka’s hot droppings being used to keep people warm.

Interestingly, the English version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A handles the scene differently. IGN notes that the translation replaces the direct mention of poop with the line: “My Pikachu’s been having tummy troubles recently. I’m worried…”

This change aligns with the franchise’s long-standing approach of keeping family-friendly content while hinting at the natural behaviors of Pokémon.

While breeding, death, and Pokémon eating other Pokémon are part of series lore, these topics are rarely spoken about explicitly in the games or anime.

Even small moments like this show how translations can shift the tone of a game for different audiences. Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Japanese version adds a touch of humor and realism, while the English version keeps things gentler for younger players.

It’s amusing and slightly endearing to see Pokémon games address such mundane aspects of their world, even if subtly. It adds personality and realism to the creatures we’ve grown up loving. What do you think about this change in translation? Share your thoughts in the comments.
