The movie comes from Paramount’s horror label, 18hz Productions, and is directed by Johannes Roberts, known for 47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Roberts also co-wrote the screenplay with Ernest Riera.
The story follows Lucy, a college student who returns home to visit her family, and their pet chimp, Ben. Things go terribly wrong when Ben contracts rabies during a pool party. As his behavior turns violent, Lucy and her friends are forced to take cover inside the pool area and fight to stay alive against the rampaging animal.
Primate stars Johnny Sequoyah and Oscar winner Troy Kotsur, best known for his role in CODA. Walter Hamada is producing the film as part of his new partnership with Paramount.

The movie will hit theaters on January 9, 2026. Until then, horror fans can catch the teaser now, and get ready for the full trailer reveal tomorrow.
