Prime Video Launches AI-Generated Video Recaps for Originals
Amazon’s Prime Video is taking AI recaps to the next level. The streaming service has introduced Video Recaps, which give viewers short, cinematic summaries of TV shows.
Unlike the previous text-based X-Ray Recaps, these new recaps combine video clips, dialogue, music, and AI-generated voice narration to help fans quickly catch up before a new season.
Video Recaps are currently available in beta for select English-language Prime Originals in the U.S., including Fallout, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Upload, Bosch, and The Rig.
Initially, viewers can access them on connected-TV devices, with support for more devices coming soon. Users can find recaps through a “Recap” button on a show’s detail page and choose between video or text versions depending on their preference.
The technology behind Video Recaps is powered by generative AI. Amazon explains that the system analyzes a season’s key storylines and character developments to identify the most important moments. It then selects relevant clips, adds dialogue and music, and generates narration, creating a polished summary.
Gérard Medioni, Prime Video’s VP of technology, called the feature “a groundbreaking application of generative AI for streaming” and added that it “demonstrates Prime Video’s ongoing commitment to innovation and making the viewing experience more accessible and enjoyable for customers.”
This follows Prime Video’s launch of X-Ray Recaps last year, which offered spoiler-free text summaries up to the point a viewer had watched. Video Recaps expand on that concept by giving audiences a more engaging, visual experience.
