Quentin Tarantino recently opened up about a potential “Kill Bill” prequel while promoting his new Fortnite short, Yuki’s Revenge.

Speaking at the premiere, the legendary director shared insights about revisiting ideas from his past films in fresh ways.

The short, based on a chapter originally written for Kill Bill, was cut from the film due to budget constraints and the already long runtime of over four hours. For the Fortnite adaptation, Tarantino kept the story intact but replaced the violent elements with family-friendly gameplay.

“With the exception of the Fortnite characters, no blood, and the blue stuff,” he explained. Uma Thurman, who stars in the sequence, had never worked in motion capture or video games before, and she enjoyed the experience. “I had no environment and just relied on dialogue, the director, and instincts,” she said. Tarantino also tried motion capture for the first time and even made a cameo as Bill.

Thurman noted that the Fortnite shoot was far more relaxed than the intense filming of the original Kill Bill. She compared it to the fun atmosphere of Pulp Fiction, saying the experience was much lighter and enjoyable.

During the panel, Tarantino was asked if he was interested in exploring video games or motion capture further. He said he saw it not as a new medium, but as a way to tell a lost chapter of Kill Bill.

He did, however, express interest in projects blending Japanese anime and virtual technology. “I could see some world between this and Japanese anime that I could find some happy medium or, you know, between the things that I couldn’t physically do, like say the Vega Brothers movie, or something like that,” he shared.

Tarantino also hinted at a possible prequel focusing on Bill’s origin. “I like the idea of a Bill origin. And the three godfathers that made Bill: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzo. Will I live long enough to do that? That remains to be seen,” he said.

Over the years, he has repeatedly discussed plans for further Kill Bill stories, including sequels and anime adaptations. In 2004, he talked about a story where Nikki would seek revenge on the Bride. By 2006, he mentioned wanting two anime films exploring Bill and the Bride’s origins. Later interviews suggested Volume 3 and 4 could follow new generations of killers connected to the Bride’s past.

Despite these ideas, Tarantino has also expressed fatigue over returning to the Kill Bill universe. In recent years, he stated he did not want to take on more films due to the exhaustion from the original projects. However, he also acknowledged the idea of a sequel remains possible, especially involving Uma Thurman and her daughter, Maya Hawke.
