Rachel Brosnahan Hints at Lois Lane Getting Superpowers in Future DCU Movies
Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane in the new Superman movie, recently spoke about the idea of her character getting superpowers in future DCU films.
She talked about it during a WIRED interview, where the cast answered the most popular questions people ask about Superman online. James Gunn, the director of Superman, joined her in that interview and shared his own thoughts.

In the 2025 Superman movie, the story doesn’t spend time showing how Lois met Clark Kent or how she discovered that he’s Superman. Instead, it focuses on their relationship after they’ve already become close. Lois and Clark trust each other, and the movie shows that clearly.
When asked if Lois Lane ever gets powers, James Gunn said he actually thinks about that quite a lot. He explained that in the comics, Lois has had powers many times. Gunn said, “Like right now in the comics, you can go see her. She has superpowers in the comics as we speak. I think about it every time I see her with powers, I’m like, ‘I know it. I know it’s Rachel’s.’”
Rachel Brosnahan also reminded people that Lois has been a superhero before, saying, “Yes, she does. Boy, does she! She becomes Superwoman for a day on her birthday in All-Star Superman, and there’s other comics where she gets powers.”
At one point during the interview, Brosnahan even joked that fans should help convince James Gunn to make Lois a superhero in future movies. She said, “Tell James you want to see a sequel where Lois Lane flies.”
Gunn replied, “She’s so happy to be cast as Lois Lane, and another part of her is like, ‘I want to be able to fly.’”
In the comics, Lois Lane has gained superpowers more than once, but usually only for a short time. Sometimes she gets random, funny powers from the Silver Age of comics, while other times she receives Kryptonian powers, making her as strong as Superman himself.
Recently in the comics, Amanda Waller gave Superman’s powers to Lois Lane by stealing them from him and other heroes.
James Gunn’s new DC Universe is already showing fans a world where strange and exciting things happen all the time. In the new Superman film, Lois works with Mister Terrific, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl, all in just one week. Gunn’s version of the DC Universe is open to wild ideas from the comics, so giving Lois superpowers in a future movie doesn’t seem impossible.
Brosnahan clearly likes the idea and is ready to see her character take flight. Whether or not Gunn will actually make that happen is still a mystery, but fans might want to start asking for it, just like Rachel suggested.
