‘Reacher’ Locks in Season 6 Before Season 5 Has Even Premiered, and Prime Video Isn’t Slowing Down

Few shows on Prime Video have built the kind of consistency that ‘Reacher‘ has managed over the last few years. Alan Ritchson’s adaptation of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels launched in 2022, and it has become one of the streamer’s most reliable performers, pairing strong reviews with an audience that keeps showing up season after season.

That momentum has now earned the series an unusually early vote of confidence. Prime Video announced on Monday that ‘Reacher’ has been renewed for Season 6, and the decision landed while Season 5 is still in production. It marks the second time this year that the show has received a renewal, since Season 5 was ordered back in May, months before Season 4 even premiered.

The renewal comes on the heels of another big performance from Season 4. Amazon says the eight-episode season reached 66 million viewers globally within 28 days of its Aug. 12 launch, and the finale aired on Sept. 16. Per Amazon, Season 4 now ranks among the top 5 most-viewed seasons of any original series on Prime Video.

That places it in serious company. Seasons 2, 3 and 4 rank as the platform’s 3 most-watched returning seasons ever, with Seasons 2 and 4 sitting among the top 5 most-viewed seasons of any original series in Prime Video history, alongside the first seasons of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ and ‘Fallout’. The show as a whole has reached more than 200 million viewers worldwide since it began.

Part of what makes the show’s performance stand out is how global its audience has become. More than half, 58%, of Season 4’s audience came from outside the United States, with especially strong numbers in the UK, Germany and Brazil.

The show has held up domestically too. It logged its fifth consecutive billion-minute weekly viewership tally on Nielsen’s streaming rankings, finishing at No. 1 in 4 of those 5 weeks.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, framed the renewal as a reflection of the franchise’s overall strength. “‘Reacher’ hits hard. What Lee Child has built and Nick Santora and his creative teams have brought to life is, simply, incredible,” he told Variety. He added that “Alan Ritchson is Jack Reacher — he’s delivered a performance that has captivated audiences around the world,” and called the series “a truly iconic series.”

With this pickup, ‘Reacher’ becomes Prime Video’s second longest-running scripted series, trailing only ‘Bosch’ and tied with ‘Invincible’, which has also been renewed through a sixth season.

Season 5 is currently filming in Toronto and is based on ‘Make Me’, the 20th book in Child’s series. The story follows Reacher after he steps off a train in the small town of Mother’s Rest, where he teams up with private investigator Michelle Chang to dig into a missing-person case that spirals into something far more dangerous.

The season has added cast members including Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, Amanda Ip and Ciara Bravo. Nick Santora continues as writer, executive producer and showrunner, working alongside Child and Ritchson, who also serve as executive producers.

The renewal arrives shortly after Prime Video released the first season of the spinoff ‘Neagley’, starring Maria Sten, which premiered on Sept. 16 alongside the Season 4 finale. The spinoff quickly became a hit in its own right, briefly overtaking ‘Reacher’ itself on Prime Video’s viewership charts.

There is no word yet on which book will serve as source material for Season 6, but given how far ahead of schedule Amazon has been operating, fans likely won’t be waiting long to find out. For a franchise built on relentless momentum, both on-screen and off, that pace tracks.

How excited are you for Reacher Season 6?
