Rebecca Ferguson has opened up once again about a past on-set incident where a co-star yelled at her, sparking curiosity about who was involved. The actress first spoke about the situation in 2024 on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast. She shared that the actor or actress in question was at the top of the call sheet, which made it difficult for her to seek help.

“I remember there was a moment and this human being was being so insecure and angry because this person couldn’t get the scenes out. And I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at. But because this person was number one on a call sheet, there was no safety net for me. So no one had my back. I would cry walking off set,” Ferguson recalled.

She also shared some of the harsh words directed at her: “You call yourself an actor?” and “This is what I have to work with?” She said she felt completely broken in that moment.

In a new interview published on February 5 by Harper’s Bazaar UK, Ferguson revisited the incident and reflected on how she might handle a similar situation now. “It was so scary. I didn’t know then how to go, ‘Hey, can I talk to you privately?’ Now, I would want to believe that I could have taken this person aside,” she explained.

She also commented on the changing culture in Hollywood, saying, “A lot of people say that we’ve become too woke, but I think, no, it’s great. The pendulum needs to swing to the other side so that we can find a balance in between.”

While fans have speculated about the identity of the co-star, Ferguson has confirmed that several high-profile actors she has worked with are not involved. Hugh Jackman, her co-star on The Greatest Showman and later Reminiscence, was ruled out. Ferguson praised Jackman in interviews and clarified he was not the person in question.

Tom Cruise is also not the actor involved. Ferguson confirmed this herself, noting that the incident occurred during a film made in the past 10 to 12 years, which eliminates Cruise as a possibility.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who worked with Ferguson on Hercules in 2014, appears to be cleared as well. After Ferguson spoke about the incident, Johnson tweeted in support of her, saying, “Hate seeing this but love seeing her stand up to bull****. Rebecca was my guardian angel sent from heaven on our set. I love that woman. I’d like to find out who did this.” Ferguson reportedly followed him on Instagram afterward, signaling there are no issues between them.

Emily Blunt, who starred with Ferguson in the 2016 film The Girl on the Train, is also not the person in question. Blunt’s representative confirmed to the Daily Mail that the two actresses remain friends. “Rebecca and Emily are friends and there’s nothing but love between them,” the statement said.

Finally, Ryan Reynolds, Ferguson’s co-star in the 2017 sci-fi horror film Life, was also cleared. She confirmed in a 2025 interview with The Times that Reynolds was not involved in the incident.

Ferguson’s honesty about the experience highlights the challenges actors sometimes face on set, especially when dealing with co-stars in positions of power. She has been praised for speaking openly about vulnerability and workplace dynamics in Hollywood.

It’s important that actors like Rebecca Ferguson are able to share their experiences while clarifying that others were not involved. It shows the complexity of the industry and the need for safer, more respectful working environments.
