Robert De Niro’s Joke About Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Sparks Massive Backlash Online
Actor Robert De Niro once again made headlines after taking a public swipe at Donald Trump during a surprise appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
De Niro appeared on Wednesday night’s episode alongside Aubrey Plaza and Martha Stewart. The show used a playful format where guests temporarily switched roles with host Stephen Colbert and asked him questions while he sat in the guest chair.
When it was De Niro’s turn, the Oscar-winning actor quickly turned the conversation political. He started by asking Colbert a simple question.
“What number were you thinking of?” Colbert explained there was a running joke connected to the question and said some celebrities had guessed correctly in the past. He mentioned that Meryl Streep and Ethan Hawke had previously managed to get the right answer.
Colbert then revealed the number he had in mind was three. That opened the door for De Niro to make his joke aimed directly at Trump.
“Because I thought it would have been two million point five, or two and a half million,” De Niro replied. “That’s the number of Epstein files Trump still hasn’t released.”
The audience immediately reacted with loud cheers and applause while Colbert laughed from the couch.
The moment quickly spread online and sparked strong reactions from viewers. Some people praised De Niro for speaking openly about Trump, while others criticized the actor for bringing politics into the comedy segment.
De Niro has been one of Trump’s most outspoken celebrity critics for years. The actor has repeatedly attacked the president in interviews, speeches, and television appearances. Colbert has also regularly mocked Trump on his late-night show.
De Niro’s also recently appeared on the “No Kings 3 Kick-Off Call,” an online event focused on protests against Trump’s administration. During the discussion, the actor spoke openly about his concerns over voting rights and government power.
De Niro said he fears the government is trying to interfere with elections and make voting more difficult for Americans.
“I’ve played plenty of tough, scary guys in the movies — but you know what really scares the hell out of me? What the government, this government, our government, is trying to do is take away our right to vote,” he said during the call.
The actor continued by accusing Trump’s administration of trying to change election systems and intimidate voters.
“They’re trying every trick in the book, and the Constitution be damned,” De Niro added. He also mentioned concerns about voter registration rules, voting by mail, and the possible use of federal forces during election periods.
De Niro went even further by calling some of the administration’s actions “monstrous” and warning viewers to pay attention to what he believes is happening in the country.
Trump has not publicly responded to De Niro’s latest comments from Colbert’s show. However, the actor’s criticism of the president is nothing new, and the two have been publicly clashing for years through speeches, interviews, and media appearances.
The latest exchange once again showed that De Niro is not holding back when it comes to his opinions about Trump, even during a comedy segment on late-night television.
