Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment Cuts Jobs as Comic Industry Struggles

Skybound Entertainment, the comic book company owned by Robert Kirkman, has laid off multiple employees. The layoffs come as the comic book industry faces serious financial troubles.
The industry has been struggling for years. Sales have been dropping, and small publishers like IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios, and Valiant have made cuts.
The bankruptcy of Diamond Comics Distributors last year also created major problems, leaving many companies without payment for their products.
Skybound had recently taken over the G.I. Joe and Transformers comics after Hasbro removed them from IDW Publishing. The company also publishes The Walking Dead and Invincible, which have become popular streaming shows. Despite its success, Skybound was not immune to the industry’s challenges.
Bleeding Cool reported that Skybound has laid off at least two employees. One of them is Patrick Coyne, a games marketing manager and former social media producer. He shared on LinkedIn:
“I was recently affected by the layoffs at Skybound, and now must painfully add the #OpenToWork banner back to my profile picture… That being said – I am excited to target my next role in games marketing and/or social media content creation and strategy.”
Another employee, Guillermo Cummings, also lost his job. He was the director of social media and strategy. He wrote on LinkedIn:
“Hey everyone, I just got laid off from Skybound and I don’t want to wait to start my search for a new role in social.”
When asked about the layoffs, Skybound’s PR manager stated that the positions were no longer needed.
