Robert Pattinson’s Best Actor Oscar Odds Are Climbing, and ‘Primetime’ Is Why
For years, Robert Pattinson has been the actor everyone says is overdue for Academy attention. He has built a run of daring roles since his Twilight days, yet he has somehow made it this far without a single Oscar nomination. 2026 may finally be the year that changes, with 4 films giving voters plenty of chances to take notice.
The most direct route runs through ‘Primetime‘, A24’s drama directed by Lance Oppenheim in his feature debut. Pattinson plays Chris Hansen, the host who became famous through ‘To Catch a Predator’, in a film set in 2006 as the show turned into its own primetime block on NBC. It premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival on September 5 and reached US theaters on September 25.
Now the market is putting a number on his chances. Robert Pattinson now has a 34% chance of winning the Best Actor Oscar, according to prediction market Kalshi, with the price recovering after a stretch of slipping. It is a notable figure for an actor who has never been nominated, especially this early in the race.

Venice gave the awards conversation its first real jolt. ‘Primetime’ debuted on Rotten Tomatoes in the mid-90s, and critics singled out Pattinson’s performance, with Rotten Tomatoes’ roundup of first reviews calling it outstanding. Oppenheim shot the film as a claustrophobic portrait in a boxy 4:3 frame, which gives the performance a pressure-cooker intensity.
Reception has cooled a little since. The film sat at about 86% on Rotten Tomatoes by mid-October, and audiences gave it a B CinemaScore. Still, it posted the third-best opening ever for A24 and a record debut for Pattinson among his A24 titles, and it reached digital platforms on November 3.
The controversy surrounding the film has not hurt the conversation either. Hansen refused to sign an NDA to see the film before its Venice premiere and has mentioned possible legal action, which only adds to the buzz around the movie.
Pattinson is chasing some big names. SlashFilm’s early predictions put ‘The Odyssey’ star Matt Damon as the likely winner and John Malkovich of ‘Wild Horse Nine’ as runner-up, noting Pattinson would likely land nominations in both lead and supporting categories but may not be able to beat a stalwart like Damon. Hard Rock Bet’s November lines made Malkovich the favorite at +100, with Andrew Scott in ‘Elsinore’ at +400.
The sentimental vote looms large this year. Tom Cruise was an early favorite on Kalshi, with ‘Digger’ viewed as a vehicle to finally win. But the film opened to just $8 million, which complicates that story, and Malkovich’s reviews for ‘Wild Horse Nine’, which opened on November 6, have been strong.
That unpredictability is part of the appeal. Michael B. Jordan won this year’s trophy for ‘Sinners’ in an upset after Timothée Chalamet had been the heavy favorite, a reminder that Best Actor can swing late.

Pattinson’s other performance may be his surest bet. He plays the arrogant suitor Antinous in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, and SlashFilm currently picks him to win Best Supporting Actor for it. A film that is already a leading Best Picture contender gives that campaign a strong tailwind.
There is also a strategic question for the studios. Pattinson could end up competing in 2 categories with 2 different films, or voters could split their support. CinemaBlend noted that fans see ‘Primetime’ as his cleanest shot at Best Actor, since the movie is built around his character, while reaction to his ‘The Odyssey’ turn has been more divided.

Prediction markets are notoriously jumpy this early. Covers noted that these markets swing sharply after reviews and social media reactions, so a 34% price today is no guarantee of anything. With the 99th Academy Awards set for March 14, 2027, there is a long road of precursors still ahead.
Which Robert Pattinson performance do you think has the best chance of earning him his first Oscar?
