Roger Sweet, the toy designer best known for creating He-Man from “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” has died at the age of 91. The news comes from TMZ, which reported details shared by his wife, Marlene.

According to her, Sweet passed away peacefully at a care facility. He had been dealing with serious health problems in recent years, including dementia. His condition worsened after a fall that led to brain injuries and long-term medical care.

Marlene said he was living in a memory care facility before his death. She also explained that his health decline started after he was found injured and unable to remember what had happened. Doctors later discovered brain bleeding, which led to hospitalization and ongoing care.

Sweet’s situation had previously gained attention when his wife started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the high cost of his medical care. The fundraiser quickly received strong support from fans of He-Man, many of whom grew up with the character. The campaign eventually raised close to 94,000 dollars, well above its original goal. The Mattel Foundation also contributed 5,000 dollars.

Roger Sweet worked at Mattel during the 1970s and 1980s. He is widely credited with helping develop the original concept for He-Man. The character later became the center of the animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” which became very popular with children during that time.

His wife shared that he passed away earlier this week, bringing an end to a difficult period for the family. She also expressed hope that his work would continue to be remembered by fans around the world.

Sweet’s legacy is now tied to one of the most recognizable characters in toy and animation history. The He-Man brand is still active today, with new projects and a planned live-action film in development. His influence continues through generations of fans who grew up with the phrase, “I have the power!”

His wife also said she has tried to contact the team behind the upcoming film in hopes that they would dedicate it to him.

Roger Sweet’s work had a huge impact on pop culture, even if many people do not always know his name. He helped create a character that stayed popular for decades, which is not something many designers achieve. What do you think about his legacy and He-Man still being popular today?
