Rogue and Storm Just Struck a Pose Together -and We Are Already Shipping Marvel’s New X-Women

Casting announcements at D23 tend to generate an immediate wave of fan excitement, but the follow-up moments often carry just as much weight once the initial buzz settles. For Marvel’s newly assembled ‘X-Men‘ cast, the days following their big reveal have offered fans a steady stream of candid glimpses into how these actors are bonding off stage.

That excitement has been building steadily since Friday night, when Marvel Studios officially confirmed its core roster for the long-awaited mutant reboot. Between the surprises and the confirmed rumors, the reveal gave fans plenty to dissect, but it was the chemistry building behind the scenes that’s continued generating headlines well after the initial announcement.

A newly shared photo capturing Inde Navarrette and Maya Boyd together has quickly caught fire online, with fans embracing the image as an early preview of the on-screen bond between Rogue and Storm. The two actresses appear relaxed and clearly comfortable together, a small but meaningful signal for a fanbase eager to see genuine camaraderie among the new ensemble.

Navarrette’s casting as Rogue carried its own layer of surprise heading into the reveal. The ‘Obsession’ breakout had previously discussed meeting with director Jake Schreier and expressed public interest in playing Mystique rather than Rogue, making her eventual casting something of an unexpected twist for fans who’d been tracking her comments closely.

In the comics, Rogue’s defining trait is her power to absorb other people’s abilities and memories through skin contact, an ability that makes physical touch inherently dangerous and has historically made her one of the X-Men’s more isolated figures. Anna Paquin previously originated the role across Fox’s earlier ‘X-Men’ film series, giving Navarrette a significant legacy to build on.

Boyd’s casting as Storm arrives from an entirely different career path. The Broadway performer, known for her role in ‘& Juliet’, makes her feature film debut with this casting, stepping into a character whose comic book history includes leading the X-Men and, at various points, ruling the nation of Wakanda.

The pairing of these two characters carries genuine narrative weight beyond just casting news. Both Rogue and Storm have long been considered central figures within the X-Men’s ensemble dynamic, and seeing the actresses bonding early suggests Marvel is intentional about building real relationships among the cast ahead of production.

They’re joined in the new lineup by Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver in a villainous turn as Nathaniel Milbury, an alias for the comics’ Mister Sinister. Director Jake Schreier, who previously helmed ‘Thunderbolts*’, is set to lead the ensemble when the film hits theaters on May 5, 2028.

This marks the first time the X-Men have assembled on screen since Fox’s 2019 film ‘Dark Phoenix’, and the first proper X-Men team-up film set entirely within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With such a long gap since the characters last appeared together, fans have been especially attentive to every detail suggesting how this new era might differ from what came before.

Reaction to the Navarrette and Boyd photo has been overwhelmingly warm, with many fans already expressing hope that their on-screen chemistry as Rogue and Storm will carry some of that same easy energy. For a franchise built so heavily around found family and team dynamics, these early candid moments are quickly becoming just as newsworthy as the official casting reveals themselves.
