Ruben Fleischer Hints at ‘Zombieland 3’ Coming in 2029
Ruben Fleischer, who recently directed Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, is looking ahead to the next chapter in his own hit franchise.
The director confirmed that talks have begun for Zombieland 3, aiming for a potential release in 2029, two decades after the original Zombieland hit theaters.
Zombieland first premiered in 2009 and became a surprise hit with audiences, thanks to its mix of zombie horror and comedy.
The film followed a group of survivors navigating a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, and it earned praise for its humor, clever writing, and the chemistry among its cast, which included Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. Critics appreciated the film’s self-aware tone and fresh take on the zombie genre, helping it stand out from other horror films of the time.
The sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, arrived ten years later in 2019. While reviews were more mixed compared to the first, audiences still enjoyed the return of the main cast and the over-the-top zombie action.
The film leaned heavily into comedy and pop-culture references, which pleased fans but drew some criticism from reviewers who felt it lacked the charm of the original. Despite this, Double Tap performed well at the box office and kept the franchise alive for future installments.
Speaking about the upcoming third movie, Fleischer told reporters, “I’m hoping that we’ll do a Zombieland 3 in 2029. We’re starting to talk about that because [the first] one was 2009, and then we did the second one in 2019, and we kind of left that one all saying, ‘We’ll see you in 10 years.’ That’s coming up now, and so we’re starting to figure that out, so I’m hoping that’ll come together.” He added that other projects are also in development, and the team will determine which moves forward first.
Fans are excited at the prospect of revisiting the chaotic, zombie-filled world of Zombieland, especially with the original cast expected to return. With its blend of horror, humor, and heart, the franchise has maintained a dedicated following over the years.
