Rumored ‘Supergirl’ Synopsis Emerges Before Teaser Trailer

DC Studios’ upcoming solo Supergirl film is generating excitement as fans await its first teaser trailer. According to Feature First, they have obtained what is believed to be a likely official, but not yet confirmed, synopsis for the movie.

The film, titled Supergirl, will star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, who is forced to team up with an unexpected ally when a dangerous enemy appears.

“Together, they embark on an epic cosmic journey where revenge and justice are at stake – and where Kara must confront her origins to find her own path as a hero,” the synopsis reportedly states.

Alcock will be joined by Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa in major roles. The movie is being produced by Peter Safran and James Gunn for DC Studios.

Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. The story follows the young heroine as she travels across the galaxy on a quest for revenge, exploring her origins and growth as a hero.

The film will be the second installment in the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, following the events of the 2025 Superman movie.

The project has a long history. A Supergirl movie was first developed under the DC Extended Universe in 2018, with the character appearing in the 2023 film The Flash portrayed by Sasha Calle.

When Gunn and Safran took over as co-CEOs of DC Studios in 2022, plans for the standalone film were revamped, leading to the current adaptation of the 2021–22 comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Alcock was cast in early 2024, and Gillespie joined later that May. Filming ran from January to May in England and Scotland.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on June 26, 2026. According to the rumored synopsis, Kara Zor-El celebrates her 21st birthday traveling across the galaxy with her dog Krypto. During her journey, she encounters Ruthye Marye Knoll and faces a tragedy that propels her on a “murderous quest for revenge.”

This upcoming film looks set to blend superhero action with a cosmic adventure, giving fans a deeper look into Supergirl’s origin story. The teaser trailer is expected to drop soon, and it will likely offer the first real glimpse at Alcock’s Kara Zor-El in action.
